Board game Review: Pajama Party sponsored by Tic Tac Toe

Board Game! What comes to your mind when I say the word, Board game?  Monopoly? Ludo? Snakes & Ladders?  The word board game takes me to my summer vacations as a child. If you like me were born before the internet and smartphones took over our lives, you would know the joy of sitting around a board game, rolling dice, competing with our siblings, cousins & parents, doing the winning dance and crying if we lose. The board game would convert any dull afternoon into so much fun and would bring the sunshine to the boring rainy days.

board game is a tabletop game that involves counters or pieces moved or placed on a pre-marked surface or “board”, according to a set of rules. Some games are based on pure strategy, but many contain an element of chance; and some are purely chance, with no element of skill. Games usually have a goal that a player aims to achieve. Early board games represented a battle between two armies, and most modern board games are still based on defeating opponents in terms of counters, winning a position, or accrual of points.

Since I am a big fan of board game myself, I have always been on the lookout for some good ones to introduce my pre-schooler little one to the joy of it. Unfortunately, even in the biggest of toy stores and early learning centers the choice of board games are so limited. Our smartphone is full of educational games for our little ones, but what if a mother wants, less screen time, and more good old family time?

Luckily, I found this small outfit, called Tic Tac Toe, run by a Montessori school teacher and a mommy of two, named Tripti, here in Dubai. She started her venture to bring educational, informative & fun board games from 2 to 12 years old age group to the parents and kids in Dubai because she like me was astonished by the dearth of it in the local market. The board games she sells are high one entertainment and education and your kids can learn alphabets, numbers, shapes, seasons, day, time and so much more just while playing with it. The quality time you get to spend with them is a bonus anyway.

Board game review
Pajama Party by Tic Tac Toe

So, I bought this board game called, “Pajama Party “ and called a couple of my little one’s friends over at home with their moms for a playdate. This was the first time that my kids and the kids of my friends were getting introduced to the fun of playing indoors, with their mommas as their teammate a fun and funny board game.

PAJAMA PARTY(AGE: 3 TO 6 YEARS)

GAME 1:

  • Spread out the tokens face-up and roll the dice.
  • Look for the card that shows the Moo wearing the same color combination as that on the dice.
  • The first player to touch that particular token picks it up.
  • Play until all tokens have been picked up.
  • The player with the maximum number of Moo tokens is the winner.

GAME 2:

  • Spread out the 21 Moo’s friends tokens face-up.
  • Shuffle the ‘Thinking assignment cards’ and place them face down in a pile.
  • Pick up a Thinking card and look for the Moo token that is the solution for it.
  • The first player to touch that particular token picks it up.
  • Play till all the Thinking cards have finished.
  • The player with the maximum number of Thinking cards is the winner.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • A fast paced visual observation game made with preschoolers in mind designed to grow with your child.
  • Large, sturdy pieces perfect for the little ones to see and handle
  • No reading required
  • Two games in a box

Since all the kids were in the age-group of 2-4 years, we only played the Game 1. We had a blast so to say. The kids were excited. This was new to them. The room was full of “Moo – Moo” sound and giggles. We moms were surprised to see that our little ones were so good in identifying colors and matching it with the right card. Makes one think, how smart are these kids if only we give them the opportunity to explore, learn and grow. The playdate ended with a very excited kiddy bunch and even more excited moms. I and my mommy friends bought some more games which we plan to play with our kids. I am sharing with you the pics of another game I bought that my little one loves to play with since she is very fascinated by shapes and numbers at the moment.

Board game fun
Some more board games for 2-4 age group

There are so many great reasons to play board games with your child(ren)!  First of all, board games allow you to spend quality, intentional, and uninterrupted time with your children.  In this world filled with a constant chime of your notepad, laptop & smartphones beckoning our every waking moment, it’s easy to try to multitask while spending time with our kids.  Chances are that by diving into a board game, you are committing to playing until that game is finished.  Hence, you end up spending useful, quality time with your kids, by keeping the world and worries away at least momentarily.

Second to quality time together as a family, children learn how to take turns and be graceful losers when playing board games.  Playing together offers the perfect time to demonstrate to your child(ren) how to be a good sport.  There is a time for winning and a time for losing…children should frequently experience both to learn how to handle the triumphs and disappointments that will inevitably come later in life. And board games can teach you a life lesson, while you think you are playing and having fun.

So, what are you waiting for? It’s summer already, with this heat you won’t be going out in the afternoon anyway, make the most of it by indulging into a good few rounds of different board games. Tic Tac Toe is also available on souq.com, so you can order your kid’s age appropriate games from their online shopping links. Check out their Facebook & Instagram links for more information. You can watch a Youtube link of the game Pajama Party here.

These games are also a very thoughtful and useful birthday gifts and return favors since they hardly cost anything as compared to the branded merchandise that your kid’s playroom will anyway be full of. In my opinion, there is no better gift for a young child than a board game. Board games offer so many learning and developmental opportunities. Plus, they are just plain fun and make for great family time! For me, it truly is a great investment.
