Megz Review: KidloLand App for Toddlers & Preschoolers

Are you a parent of a toddler or preschooler? Then like me, I bet, you spend a lot of time contemplating ways of engaging with your children in a way, that gives them entertainment, education & information. Right?

I am a mother of a curious, smart and observant 3-year-old little girl. My daughter loves to sing her Nursery Rhymes. She enjoys story time and loves to read with me. She has an enviable attention span for her age, for anything that teaches her something new, whether it be Animals, Shapes, Insects, Human Anatomy, Food Science, Geography, or even Art & Creative science. She loves to explore. She enjoys wrestling with her brain cells while doing puzzles and she squeals with joy when she does find the difference between two seemingly similar images.

Imagine, how much time, effort and money it would take to find all these flash cards, download different nursery rhymes, buy various puzzles, create interactive stories, buy coloring books, reading material for all the different subjects I mentioned above.

So, I couldn’t be happier when I first downloaded KidloLand App. I found all this and way more under one roof. Easy peasy and lots of fun.

FULL DISCLOSURE!

I had first downloaded the Nursery Rhyme part of the KidloLand app when my little one was 1 year old. Mind you, I had kept my baby away from all sorts of screens for the 1st year of her life. As a part of her growing up in a digital age, she was introduced to the interactive power of digital media, of course in small doses, and she loved it.

Now that she is 3 years old, I downloaded the complete app to explore more parts of this app to educate her in Shapes, Interactive Games, and Toddler Activity.  Then one day, I received an Email from KidloLand the company to review their app. They offered me a free subscription in exchange for my in-depth review. Of course, I sent them my collaboration policy and informed them, that I am a user of their app and I would love to review their app, albeit with honesty and it will purely be based on my observation & experience of using the app with my little one. They agreed. And so here it goes,

WHAT’S KIDLOLAND?

KidloLand is an award-winning app for kids (1-5 yrs.) with 1000+ nursery rhymes, songs, games, and storybooks. Learn ABCs, numbers, colors, shapes, animals, vehicles, and lots more. Recommended by 400+ Mom Bloggers. The variety of games, songs, activities, and puzzles available on the full version of this app is nothing short of incredible. KidloLand is special because it doesn’t just share these stories with your child; it lets kids interact with the stories onscreen as they play along.

It has been downloaded by millions of users worldwide.  It has won some key bragging rights like,

CAN I USE THE APP OFFLINE?

One of the key highlights that I loved was that once you download the rhymes, games or stories, you can use it even without wi-fi. This app was a great savior for us, during our summer holiday, in the flight especially because it kept my little one entertained even without a wi-fi.

WHAT DO I LIKE IN IT?

  1. I like that its one-stop shop for everything a toddler and a preschooler would need for education and entertainment purposes. Its library of resources is super vast.
  2. The animations, colors, music & brightness are very toddler-friendly. It’s easy to their eyes and it brings chuckles and giggles many a time. The monsters in KidloLand are very cute and cuddly.
  3. I liked the fact that this app gives me enough opportunity to me as a parent to work together with my little one to solve puzzles, go on a virtual travel, play, learn and have fun. It is our quality time and not a mind-numbing stupid alone time with a screen in hand for a toddler. This app makes my little one asks questions, think, use motor skills and learn new things.
  4. I treat it as a supplement to what they learn at school. It truly reinforces the learning they have in a more interactive digital fun way.
  5. Funny animations and sounds make each experience a delight for little kids. Unlike videos and shows, which kids can only watch, KidloLand lets your kids play along with the characters on screen
  6. It works offline too
  7. KidloLand is Certified safe for kids by the Kid SAFE program.
  8. The biggest relief is that it is Always AD FREE, so you don’t get that annoying break in between that can lead your toddler to a mini meltdown
  9. I have noticed an improvement in my daughter’s vocabulary. She knows a lot of professions, she uses cause and effect thinking and applies it in the interactive activities.
  10. It is approved by my 3-year-old. It is her favorite app

WHAT CAN BE BETTER

  1. This is a subscription-based app. They have 3 options for subscriptions: $4.99/ month, $24.99/ 6 months or the best value: $39.99/ year. I wish they had the option to buy as In-app purchases the section that is relevant for the age of your baby. I think it is an expensive app, but like I mentioned above, if you compare it to the cost of all the various books and AV material you will have to buy to get the kind of library, KidloLand has, this subscription sure seems economical.
  2. I wish all the links in the app came downloaded the moment you pay for a subscription it will save a lot of time and effort.  Thing is, every single rhyme, game, a story that you click on, needs to be downloaded so you can use it offline, but it takes some time subject to your internet speed. That wait sometimes can distract a cheeky toddler and it also feels like a chore for us to download the links individually.
  3. There is an in-app music that runs continuously in the background. It is very pleasant, and my daughter loves it. Though I wish the app gave me the option to mute it sometimes when I play with it while my daughter sleeps next to me. (Yup, I play with it too!)

MY VERDICT

Currently, I am on a free subscription, thanks to KidloLand, but once that expires, I intend to purchase the annual subscription of this app. I like it. My toddler loves it. It is the only educational app I need on my phone, that I can share with my little one’s Ipad, and even play on my Apple TV.

‘There is so much out there in this app. Rhymes, Flash Cards, Games, Activities, Animated animals and creatures, Puzzles, Storybooks, Playlists, and so much more, that your child never gets an opportunity to be bored. Hell, you don’t get bored. And then, they are continually updating the content so better is yet to come. I am sold.’

If you are a parent who allows your kids to have limited screen time, but also, like to spend that screen time engaging with them, playing, learning, entertaining and interacting with your little ones, then this surely is the app for you. Go for it!

Kidloland app for toddlers, preschoolers

I know a section of modern parents, often focuses on devices as harmful and mind-numbing; creating crabby, square-eyed, couch potato children. But if you do a google search and read some recent research on this topic, you will see that digital media and screens provide a unique avenue for learning and socialization.  Parents engaging with their children in screen time can help them get more from the experience

Phones and tablets aren’t just for exploring the weird and wonderful corners of the internet, reading and educational apps designed for children can help improve literacy and creativity.

Go ahead, give your little one some screen time. But choose wisely. Use apps that will help them develop and grow and learn because that’s the only way to justify the time away from unabashed child’s play of the glorious childhood.

This sounds like an excellent investment for your little one. My kids preferred books, paper and colored pencils to electronics until pokemon came along.

  13. I am not very much updated with the educational apps that we have these days. It’s really good to learn about them through fellow bloggers. I think this one’s worth a try!

  14. This sounds like something I’ll need to check out in two years time! I’m three months off from giving birth to my son and it feels weird just saying that but in reality I’m going to have to start thinking about what mediums I’ll use to enrich his little mind!
